A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:
At the Waterloo campus, the Orientation Committee works with the EcoHawks, a student run environmental organization, to educate students on sustainable campus living practices. All the meals provided during orientation are entirely waste free. The EcoHawks set up compost bins to collect organic waste and all plates and cutlery are biodegradable. In addition, a representative from the EcoHawks leads a discussion about sustainability in a university campus environment with each orientation team.
At the Brantford Campus, water bottle refill stations are set up at most events during orientation week. In addition, venues are selected based on proximity to campus to ensure students have the option to take sustainable means of transportation.
All first years receive a reusable water bottle as part of their orientation kits which come in a reusable shopping bag made from recycled materials.
