The mission of the President's Sustainability Advisory Committee (PSAC) is to promote a respect for and commitment to environmental awareness and responsibility within the Whitman College community. This dedicated group of faculty, staff, and students meets monthly to develop a direction for an increased commitment to sustainability campus-wide. The Committee is chaired by the Sustainability Manager.
Our purpose is to:
* Undertake a leadership role in representing members of the Whitman College community on sustainability issues
* Promote a lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship among members of the Whitman community through programs of education and awareness
* Support and promote the initiatives of students, staff, and faculty that serve to enhance the College’s sustainability
* Develop recommendations to the administration that further the College’s long-range environmental goals
* Uphold the environmental principles of the College and advocate for practices aimed at reducing Whitman’s impact on the environment
Our purpose is to:

The Office of Sustainability unites the efforts of faculty, staff, and students to promote leadership in sustainability, integrating social justice, economic, and ecological values into institutional policies, programs, and practices. The Office of Sustainability is managed by the Sustainability Manager. The Office oversees the Recycling Center, which has 1 half-time staff member and 3-5 student employees. Additionally, the Sustainability Office co-operates the Whitman College Bike Share, which has 2 student employee. The Office often has 1-2 additional student employees doing project-based work or internships.

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
The President's Sustainability Advisory Committee and the Sustainability Manager serve to coordinate sustainability institution-wide. Substantive accomplishments include continued progress on our Climate Action Plan, looking ahead at certifying our upcoming construction project through LEED, refreshing the Bike Share Program to be more user friendly, increasing the diversion rate fro recycling across campus, and advancing partnerships for student engagement in sustainability.
