The 2010 Westminster Master Plan (pg. 101) states "Westminster College is dedicated to promoting sustainability in its facilities and operations as well as the curriculum. This dedication to environmental stewardship is integral to the success of the College and its standing with the Community. The following goals define Westminster’s vision for sustainability campus wide: Overarching Sustainability Goals Sustainability is a forward looking practice to maintain the well-being of not only humanity but of the world’s natural resources. 1. Westminster College will be a sustainability leader within the Sugar House Community. 2. Sustainable learning will be integrated throughout the Westminster experience and into all facets of campus life in order to graduate students that are well-prepared to understand and act in a dynamic, green, and global society. 3. Sustainability will be integral to campus operational decisions. Steps toward achieving goals: • Ensure that the Campus Climate Plan, in accordance with the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, reaches its target date of 2030 for achieving climate neutrality. • Reduce emissions ten to fi fteen percent by 2015. • Offer opportunities for student engagement and career development in sustainability. • Support inclusion of sustainability in curriculum from multiple disciplines. • Use campus buildings and landscape as tools for student learning. • Establish a revolving loan fund to fi nance campus projects that enhance effi ciency, provide building assessments and encourage sustainable behaviors. • Complete remaining water wise landscape conversion outlined in 2005 Landscape Master Plan. • Create a Campus Sustainability Plan to outline and document the evolving sustainability goals of the College and provide a road map for specifi c sustainable improvements. • Use the AASHE Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS) to guide future sustainable programs and decisions on campus. Westminster should a STARS rating by the end of 2011."
