Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level:

Western's Director of Sustainability was appointed by the mayor of La Crosse to serve on the La Crosse Climate Action Plan steering committee. This committee is in support of a recently passed ordinance to achieve City-wide carbon neutrality by 2050.

Yes

Western has done work on advocating for Project Proven with state representatives. Project Proven works to ease the transition of incarcerated individuals into a full-time student role.

Western is an inaugural member of the Presidents' Climate Commitment. Additionally, we have signed the "We are still in" commitment after the current federal administration signaled they would be pulling the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Accord.
