Does the institution have policies and/or guidelines in place to improve outdoor air quality and minimize air pollutant emissions from mobile sources?:

A brief description of the policies and/or guidelines to improve outdoor air quality and minimize air pollutant emissions from mobile sources:

WKU Facilities Management has a "no idle" policy for the Facilities fleet, and WKU Parking and Transportation has a "no idle" policy for university shuttles and busses.

Has the institution completed an inventory of significant air emissions from stationary sources on campus?:

A brief description of the methodology(ies) the institution used to complete its air emissions inventory:

The university utilizes nationally recognized AP 42 emission factors as well as the KY Division for Air Quality’s Emissions Inventory System database to calculate annual emissions from stationary sources.

Weight of the following categories of air emissions from stationary sources::
Weight of Emissions
Nitrogen oxides (NOx) 6.86 Tons
Sulfur oxides (SOx) 0.12 Tons
Carbon monoxide (CO) 8.09 Tons
Particulate matter (PM) 0.81 Tons
Ozone (O3) ---
Lead (Pb) 0.00 Tons
Hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) ---
Ozone-depleting compounds (ODCs) ---
Other standard categories of air emissions identified in permits and/or regulations 0.50 Tons

A brief description of the institution’s initiatives to minimize air pollutant emissions from stationary sources, including efforts made during the previous three years:

The university eliminated the use of coal in 2012 and removed the two coal boilers from its KY Division For Air Quality Permit in 2013. This resulted in substantial reductions in NOx and SOx, as well as a moderate reduction in PM.
