A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty :

For 2010-2012, WKU has a hiring plan that To answer the call for career and college readiness in Reading, WKU developed is designed to provide an incentive to those departments who are successful in recruiting and hiring qualified African American faculty. The Plan stipulates:

1. Position(s) must be full-time, tenure-eligible or CNTE and included in the departmental/school/college approved staffing plan.
2. The faculty member would be required to hold a doctoral degree or terminal degree in their discipline. ABD’s would be eligible.
3. Funds from the Chief Diversity Officer’s budget would support 50% of the faculty member’s salary and benefits for the 1st year; and 25% of the faculty member’s salary and benefits for the 2nd year. For year 3 and beyond, the University would provide 25% of the faculty member’s salary and benefits. The department will then be allowed to retain 25% as lapse salary.
4. The department would have to establish a professional development plan for the new hire.
