WVU's status as a land-grant institution means that teaching, research, and service are components of promotion and tenure in each college. Volunteer activities may be evaluated in the service section of faculty reports and are encouraged especially if they support the state of West Virginia. The service section of these guidelines is attached below in section 3.c. and each college also specifies service activities in their own college-specific promotion and tenure guidelines.
