Inventory of the institution’s sustainability research:

Sustainability research activities include authorship (books, peer-reviewed journal articles), partnership with external organizations to conduct research projects, multi-disciplinary team and laboratory-based research, speaking engagements and presentations at academic conferences.

Activities and publications covered topics ranging from biodiesel production on campus; to building design strategies including Passive House and carbon neutral design; 3D printing for sustainable, resilient, and affordable housing; economic analysis of energy codes on housing affordability; walking as a form of transportation, SubSaharan African informal urbanism; environmental ethics; studies/publications using the campus as a living lab including energy demand analysis, solar PV analysis, and lighting quality impacts of campus lighting retrofits; and mentoring teams of students to participate (and earn recognition) in the Department of Energy Solar Decathlon.

A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:

Wentworth is primarily a teaching institution, however, faculty are encouraged to participate in scholarly or creative activity. A faculty sustainability survey is circulated every few years to gather information on academic sustainability activities.
