Wentworth's GHG emissions inventory was developed in accordance with the WRI / WBCSD "The GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard" using the Clean Air Cool Planet Campus Carbon Calculator, version 9.0. Note that for scope 3, waste total tonnage is tracked in the Carbon Calculator, however the Calculator shows waste emissions as a negative number due to off-site treatment (methane capture & energy production). Wentworth has zeroed out this "carbon sink" in an effort to retain a more conservative estimate of campus GHG emissions.

The GHG emissions baseline was adopted during Wentworth's climate action planning process, as part of meeting the requirements of the Carbon Commitment. The baseline was selected because it was the first year which had the most complete and accurate accounting of campus GHG emissions.

A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives, including efforts made during the previous three years:
GHG reduction efforts over the last few years included establishing a formal partnership with the utilities to pursue energy efficiency / GHG reductions. To-date over $700,000 in incentives have been received toward projects including LED lighting retrofits, HVAC equipment and controls upgrades, combined heat and power plant repairs and upgrades at the central plant and 610 Huntington residence hall, steam trap maintenance program, and LEED Silver (or higher) equivalent green building design & construction strategies including high-efficiency HVAC equipment, insulation, controls, etc. The new CEIS building is the latest example which was designed to save 37% on energy costs compared to baseline construction, and hosts the first solar PV array on campus.
