Marian Brown, Sustainability Center director, presented “Renewably Powering—and Empowering—a Community” and “From the Ground[s] Up” at the Association for the Ad-vancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) conference in Baltimore. Brown delivered “Integrating Sustainability into Curriculum” for the State of NY Sustainability Conference at SUNY New Paltz in November. In absentia, her invited presentation on “Residence Hall Recycling Support” was delivered at the conference of the NYS Association for Reduc-tion, Reuse and Recycling. Brown was invited to moderate a session for the “Applying STEM Disciplines to Support Sustainable Communities” conference at Alfred State College in January 2016. Her session, titled “Team Up! Complementary Curricular & Co-Curricular Initiatives”, explored how STEM programs and faculty can partner with Student Affairs, and how inter-nal collaborations can enhance the collective impact of sustain-ability focused community en-gagement. This conference was sponsored by New York Campus Compact, an organization of which Wells is a member, that promotes active citizenship within higher education. Brown also presented "Repairing Our Foodshed" at the State of New York Sustainability conference in Cortland NY in November 2017.

Wells College's submission to the New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse and Recycling (NYSAR3) was reviewed and awarded funding to further develop our in-residence hall recycling program; that funding is open to all members in good standing on the organization's College Council. Wells was awarded additional NYSAR3 College Council funding in early 2017 for expanding its composting program to include the campus pub. In Fall 2016, we were invited to present our successful case study of “Residence Hall Recycling Support” for the Fall 2016 NYSAR3 conference.

Marian Brown, Sustainability Center director, contributed to a research article about seed libraries, written by Dana Ingalls, a librarian at McGill University in Canada. Ingalls’ article, “Breaking New Ground: The Case for Seed Libraries in the Academic Library”, was published in Public Services Quarterly and liberally cites the Wells College experience developing our Wells College Seed Exchange. Using the advice we shared with them, McGill’s Macdonald Library opened its own seed library at the end of March.
Sustainability Center director Marian Brown was invited to serve on the conference planning committee for the 2017 annual meeting of the New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse and Recycling.
