A brief description of how the physical campus plan or amendment includes sustainability:
Landscape Master Plan Put into effect in 1998, the Landscape Master Plan prioritized a more naturalistic vision of landscape by protecting and restoring meadows and wetlands. As a result of the plan, significant portions of the campus have been transformed to re-center focus on the primacy of the pedestrian and of native vegetation. Some landscape renovations include the removal of 5.7 acres bituminous concrete and gravel parking and road ways have been moved to the perimeter of the campus. Since the Landscape Master Plan was put into effect, Wellesley College has restored over 8 acres of wetlands and has planted over 4,000 trees, 20,000 shrubs, and multiple herbaceous plants. A majority of the projects noted in the 1998 Landscape Master Plan have been successfully completed and now only a few remain. To this day, Wellesley College continues to work under the principles and values highlighted in the Master Plan.
