Academic department have access to a number of databases and directories that provide information on potential candidates for available faculty positions.
The Committee on Minority Recruitment, Hiring, and Retention:
The committee ensures that a diversity representative is presents on every search committee for potential candidates, works with the chairs of each department to ensure that the recruitment search is broad, issues mailings to PHD programs, announces open positions to databases that target a wider pool of candidates, and reviews position announcements for an expression of Wellesley's commitment to diversity.
Diversity Liason:
Diversity Liasons are a resource for faculty search committees and a partner in the faculty recruitment process. The Diversity Liasons help implement and monitor the established search procedures to ensure broad outreach and equitable impact. The Diversity Liasons have a clear understanding of all aspects of the faculty search process in order to provide support through the search process.
Diversity Liason responsibilities include:
-assisting with the creation of a diverse search committee and the development of minority outreach on the search plan
encouraging the committee to consider the totality of each person's background and experiences
-considering how well each applicant's experience and commitment to diversity can contribute to the College's diversity goal
-following-up with newly hired candidates to help ease the transition
