A brief description of the student group:
Wellesley Energy and Environmental Defense, better know as WEED, aims to promote and enhance environmentally friendly practices on campus in order to lessen Wellesley's impact on the environment. Throughout the year, WEED coordinates a number of campus wide events and demonstrations, hosts a month long inter-dorm energy competition, and invites speakers onto the campus to give public lectures to the student body.
WEED is an active participant in the Green Umbrella environmental supergroup comprised of different green organizations on campus. This organization brings together the diverse green organizations at Wellesley. One example is the Slow Food WC Chapter, which focuses on sustainability within the food system. Another is Students for a Just and Stable Future, the Wellesley’s branch of statewide, student-led network which campaigns for bold, tangible solutions to the climate crisis on campus-wide and regional level. Additionally, the Green Umbrella also hosts El Table (the sustainable co-op cafe), SCOOP (the sustainable living co-op), Regeneration farm, and the Outing Club. The Umbrella also hosts groups from Babson and Olin.
