Weber State University's Environmental Initiatives Committee has the following charges as specified by the faculty senate: 1. Help facilitate the modeling of best practices for economic and environmental sustainability at WSU. 2. Serve as a local and statewide source for scientifically-based information and for leadership on environmental issues affecting Utah and the Wasatch Front. 3. Help facilitate integration of environmental initiatives into academic affairs, student affairs, and facilities management.

Energy and Sustainability Office Mission: The mission of Weber State University's Energy & Sustainability Office (ESO) is to serve as a state and national leader by making its campuses sustainable and carbon neutral by the year 2040 through the use of intelligent business practices. The ESO embraces the idea that business goals and environmental goals are not mutually exclusive and must be pursued together to successfully create a sustainable university. The ESO collaborates with departments and offices on and off campus to share and implement sustainability best practices. The ESO also seeks to involve students in this transformational work to ensure that they have the skills necessary to become future sustainability leaders in their respective professions. Sustainability Practices and Research Center Mission: The mission of the Weber State University Sustainability Practices and Research Center is to inform and educate WSU students, faculty, staff, and the local and statewide community in order to ensure the sustainability of our region and our world for future generations. The Center collaborates closely with the Environmental Initiatives Committee and the Energy and Sustainability Office, serving as a hub to connect campus activities, programs, departments, and community partners in order to advance a commitment to sustainability in the region. We work with faculty to incorporate sustainability topics and materials into research and the curriculum.

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:

WSU has two sustainability offices responsible for institution-wide coordination. The Energy & Sustainability Office is located in the Facilities Management Department and is responsible for sustainable campus operations. The Sustainability Practices and Research Center is located in Academic Affairs and is responsible for curriculum development and research support. On and off campus engagement is the responsibility of both offices.
