Part 1. Greenhouse gas emissions inventory
Yes
A copy of the most recent GHG emissions inventory:
A brief description of the methodology and/or tool used to complete the GHG emissions inventory:
Weber State University's sustainability coordinator collects all of the necessary data and inputs the data into the Sustainability Indicator Management & Analysis Platform (SIMAP).
Has the GHG emissions inventory been validated internally by personnel who are independent of the GHG accounting and reporting process and/or verified by an independent, external third party?:
Yes
A brief description of the GHG inventory verification process:
WSU had a 3rd party external review conducted by the University of New Hampshire Sustainability Institute in November, 2021. The results of that review are documented in the attached file.
Documentation to support the GHG inventory verification process:
Scope 1 GHG emissions
Weight in MTCO2e | |
Stationary combustion | 6,306.35 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |
Other sources (mobile combustion, process emissions, fugitive emissions) | 585.12 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |
Total gross Scope 1 GHG emissions, performance year:
6,891.47
Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Scope 2 GHG emissions
Weight in MTCO2e | |
Imported electricity | 6,061.66 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |
Imported thermal energy | 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |
Total gross Scope 2 GHG emissions, performance year:

Scope 3 GHG emissions
Yes or No | Weight in MTCO2e | |
Business travel | Yes | 2,563.26 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |
Commuting | Yes | 22,126.06 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |
Purchased goods and services | No | --- |
Capital goods | No | --- |
Fuel- and energy-related activities not included in Scope 1 or Scope 2 | No | --- |
Waste generated in operations | Yes | 976.35 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |
Other sources | No | --- |
Total Scope 3 GHG emissions, performance year:
25,665.67
Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
A brief description of how the institution accounted for its Scope 3 emissions:
Business travel emissions are calculated from travel mileage reports that come from the WSU Purchasing Department. Commuting emissions are based on a survey that is sent out to a representative sample of WSU students, faculty, and staff. Waste emissions are based on tonnage reports obtained from WSU's waste hauler, Republic Services.
Part 2. Air pollutant emissions inventory
Yes

Sulfur oxides (SOx) | 0.03 Tons |
Carbon monoxide (CO) | 4.11 Tons |
Particulate matter (PM) | 1.03 Tons |
Ozone (O3) | 0 Tons |
Lead (Pb) | 0.00 Tons |
Hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) | 0.27 Tons |
Ozone-depleting compounds (ODCs) | 0 Tons |
Other standard categories of air emissions identified in permits and/or regulations | 0.07 Tons |
Do the air pollutant emissions figures provided include the following sources?:
Yes or No | |
Major stationary sources | Yes |
Area sources | Yes |
Mobile sources | No |
Commuting | No |
Off-site electricity production | No |
None
A brief description of the methodology(ies) the institution used to complete its air emissions inventory:
WSU's Environmental Health and Safety Department provides air pollution reports to the Utah Department of Environmental Quality using the State's SLEIS data entry and management system. WSU follows Utah Department of Air Quality standards and protocols for conducting its air emissions inventory. These inventories are audited by the DAQ.
