A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:

The orientation experience has shifted quite a bit in response to COVID alternative operations and launching a new university HR and accounting system (Workday). Orientation used to be a full day in-person experience with presentations from different departments, including the Office of Sustainability. Then it shifted to a much shorter in-person program with departmental content (like sustainability) being presented by one HR representative. During COVID, orientation shifted again to self-directed content delivered through the Learn@work platform. Content was slimmed again in favor of a more targeted, less time-intensive program.

As part of the current onboarding experience, employees are directed to a simple and straightforward webpage (https://hr.wustl.edu/welcome-2/) that outlines their onboarding process, shares useful links, and provides a dedicated section on WashU News & Culture, that directs employees to the Office of Sustainability landing webpage, as well as a "get involved" page with employee-relevant programs. The OOS website is a comprehensive repository of guides, news, and other resources covering all aspects of sustainability at the university.

We are working with HR to update the employee-specific link to first go to a webpage specifically tailored with content relevant to new employees (like sustainable commute options, the Green Office Program, how to sort waste on campus, and professional development opportunities within the sustainability field.) This will be done by April 2022.
