A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):
The Office of Sustainability has undertaken a wide variety of initiatives to integrate sustainability into new student orientation by:
-Co-sponsoring a "Defining Sustainability" event for new students during the "First 40 Days" to meet the various green groups on campus and engage in discussion with university administrators on the current university path towards sustainability
-Co-sponsoring an off-campus program to acquaint new students with the public transit system, Metro, including light rail and buses
-Including information on sustainability on campus in email newsletters and paper publications to incoming freshmen
-Training Residential Advisors, Residential College Directors, and Student Advisors on sustainability on-campus, including waste sorting rules, the university's Strategic Plan for Sustainable Operations, and transportation alternatives, and making relevant materials available to them, including fliers with recycling rules, move-in sustainability tips, and information on relevant upcoming events
-Attending orientation events with sustainability materials and mini-activities
-Educating students through the Green Ambassadors program
-The Medical School presents on sustainability during orientation and gives free reusable grocery bags to new students
-The Office of Sustainability has also coordinated special sustainability presentations with the Association of Graduate Engineering Students, Graduate Professional Council, and Graduate Student Senate.
