A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):
All students have access to University Counseling Services and Peer Counseling services. The "Let's Talk" program provides quick access to drop-in counseling, and TELUS Health, an online counseling service, is available for free to students. The Washingtonian Society provides substance abuse recovery support.

All benefit-eligible employees are encouraged to participate in the university's wellness program, Live Well W&L. We also offer free counseling services through our Employee Assistance Program. Our health insurance also provides well-being services and resources.

The employee wellness program's centerpiece is the Live Well W&L initiative.
Live Well W&L's three primary objectives:
1. Create a culture of holistic wellness within the university community.
2. Encourage and support well-being by providing comprehensive programming.
3. Provide education, tools and resources to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Live Well W&L programming includes prevention and six holistic areas of wellbeing: emotional, financial, physical, social, intellectual and environmental. The program is offered at no cost to benefit-eligible employees and their spouses/partners.

W&l also offers assistance through EAP, providing free professional and confidential counseling and referrals to benefit-eligible employees and their family members.

All faculty, staff, students, vendors, and visitors to the University are expected to comply with Virginia law regarding the minimum age for persons purchasing or possessing tobacco products, nicotine vapor products and alternative products (21 years of age as of July 1, 2019 with an exception for active duty military personnel).

Smoking, including e-cigarettes/nicotine vapor products and alternative nicotine products, is not permitted inside classroom buildings, administrative buildings, student residential buildings (including Greek and theme housing), dining areas, University Store, athletic facilities, or University owned or rented vehicles or within 25 feet of residential buildings (including Greek and theme housing). Smokers are asked to refrain from smoking in entrance-ways to buildings, or adjacent to open windows or air intakes, or in other outdoor areas where environmental smoke is not rapidly dispersed. All members of the University community are expected to treat each other with courtesy and respect in honoring this policy.
