The Washington and Lee University Food Pantry is an initiative that is sponsored and supported by the Division of Student Affairs.
The Division of Student Affairs identified a need for a food pantry at W&L that aims to alleviate food insecurity among students by providing food to those in need.
The Food Pantry is located in an accessible and welcoming space in the university student center, the Elrod University Commons. Fresh and packaged food and pantry items are available to students in need at all times.
Create a safe space to distribute good quality and nutritious emergency food to current students.
Collaborate with Campus Garden and Campus Kitchen to provide good quality and nutritious food items (donations) that may otherwise go to waste to enhance sustainability initiatives on campus.
Raise awareness around hunger issues, especially as experienced by low-income college students.
Encourage student engagement to foster a sense of community.
