Washington and Lee offers a generous benefits package averaging 30% of compensation per employee. The University subsidizes the cost of health care premiums so that employees need not pay more than 10% of family income toward health care premiums.

Has the institution made a formal commitment to pay a living wage?:
Yes

A copy or brief description of the institution’s written policy stating its commitment to a living wage:

Washington and Lee is committed to paying starting wages at levels that are consistent with a living wage in Rockbridge County, Virginia. Based on living wage guidelines published by MIT (http://livingwage.mit.edu/counties/51163), we will set our lowest range minimum at a level which represents the rate an individual must earn to support a family with two adults and one child. The executive director of budgets and compensation will adjust market reference ranges annually in July based on overall market movement and changing living wage guidelines.
