Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Compost Crew
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
W&L has a student-led, student-run Compost Crew of 18 students who are paid for their work. Every night, a pair of students makes a compost collection run to various dining facilities and fraternities on campus to collect food waste. They then take it to our university-owned compost system, which is a static aerated pile. Our compost program would not run were it not for this engaged group of students who are willing to perform sometimes yucky work. In the past couple years, the Compost Crew has grown from 6 students to now 18. And from 2010 to 2016, the Crew has collected over 100,000 pounds of compost.
