As a member for the Association for Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, Washington and Lee University collaborates with other colleges and universities to support and help build the campus sustainability community. At the last two AASHE conferences, W&L faculty presented on campus sustainability initiatives.

Virginia Military Institute is located right next to W&L in Lexington, and there are several examples in which VMI and W&L collaborate on issues of land use and community relations. For instance, both institutions provided representatives to the former Lexington Go Green Committee.
