A brief description of other programs or initiatives to encourage more sustainable modes of transportation and/or reduce the impact of student and employee commuting:
Warren Wilson College established a Transportation Crew in 2019 to give students access to local resources and service off-campus needs. The Student Government Association voted to charge a student fee to fund this initiative. Currently, we provide rides to work locations, interviews, internships, and doctor appointments. We have regularly scheduled rides Monday - Thursday evenings, to local stores. With a sustainability focus, we coordinate our routes to include multiple locations, limiting the back-and-forth to campus mileage. We use one of the College motorpool’s new vans with an "alternative fuel system" which reduces our carbon footprint and allows us to transport five to six passengers at a time. We advertise our services through the Warren Wilson App and word of mouth.
