A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Each new undergraduate and transfer student is required to attend a one-hour session about campus sustainable practices which includes an introduction to some of the student Work Crews that are prominent practitioners. In addition, every new and transfer student is required to take a Green Walkabout tour of campus. Developed in 2000, this tour introduces students (and the public) to Warren Wilson's sustainability commitment and campuswide, our sustainable practices: from green buildings to land management practices, recycling, composting, lighting and more. In addition, every student participates in multiple sessions on Warren Wilson's commitment to a diverse, equitable and inclusive campus and they are introduced to the wide array of support services related to these principles. Finally, students are introduced to the importance of community engagement in issues of sustainability. All new and transfer students participate in Service Day during orientation. For the past few years, the entire day has been devoted to working with regional nonprofits in support of Food Security for the region.
