Since 2012, John Knox, the Henry C. Lauerman Professor of International Law, has served as the United Nations special rapporteur for Human Rights and the Environment. Professor Knox has hosted and served on the organizing committees of several international conferences on the human right to a healthy environment.
Stan Meiburg, Director of the Sustainability Graduate Programs, serves as the chair of the North Carolina Environmental Management Commission's Air Quality Committee.
CEES Director Miles Silman serves on the Amazon Aid Foundation's Advisory Council and is a member of the Amazon Conservation Association's Board of Directors.

Wake Forest has collaborated with with a group of campuses whose executive vice presidents participate in a professional collaborative. The 2017-18 initiative has centered on two sustainability-focused projects. Wake Forest has served in a leadership capacity for one of the two working groups.
The seventh annual Appalachian Energy Summit midyear meeting, which was held at the Wake Forest Biotech Place Conference Center in February 2018, brought together students, faculty and leaders in academia and business to exchange ideas and share best practices in support of a clean energy economy. Wake Forest staff and faculty members collaborated with counterparts at Appalachian State University to co-host this conference.
Wake Forest partnered with Clean Air Carolina to host the 2018 NC Breathe Conference at the Bowman Gray Medical Center on March 8, 2018. The conference provides an interactive forum for North Carolinians to share the latest research related to the impacts air pollution has on human health, the environment, and the economy, and to discuss the critical role policy-making plays.
The WFU Law Review's Spring Symposium on Human Rights, held in April 2018, brought together environmental and human rights experts from around the world to discuss the interplay between human rights and natural resources.
Wake Forest collaborated with Elon University to host a panel discussion entitled “The Intersecting Roles of EPA and Business” on November 15, 2017.
