A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:
The Green Team Network is a campus-wide initiative that empowers faculty and staff to integrate sustainability into everyday workplace decisions through peer-to-peer education, support, and collaboration. Each Green Team captain chooses how best to reach out to his or her colleagues, but may do so through meetings, campaigns, guest speakers, or a number of other means.
A brief description of how the employee educators are selected:
Green Team captains are nominated and selected by the heads of their departments. There are no set term lengths; volunteers are encouraged to remain in their position as long as possible in order to provide continuity and make gains on prior progress. If a captain is no longer able or interested in serving, Office of Sustainability staff will reach out to the appropriate department chair or office leader for a new selection.
A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
New Green Team captains participate in a lunch orientation session where they learn the history of the Green Team, the importance of their role, what is expected of them, and background information on sustainability at Wake Forest. They also participate in exercises to determine the ways in which they can be most effective as peer leaders.
Green Team meetings are held quarterly; each meeting centers on a theme, such as waste reduction, energy, or sustainable dining. Additional sessions take place throughout the year and vary in scope. For example, the Program Coordinator meets with each captain individually to discuss ongoing initiatives and ideas for future collaboration and increased effectiveness. The Office of Sustainability has also partnered with Facilities & Campus Services to provide building-specific information sessions, where captains learn how their buildings operate and what steps they can take to maximize efficiency.
Other ongoing communication takes place through the listserv, email, and phone calls.
A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination):
The full-time Office of Sustainability Program Coordinator manages the Green Team, with all staff members being responsible for the development of resources for the network, including a resource website and team listserv. The Office hosts meetings and provides plant-forward lunches.
If reporting employees served by additional peer-to-peer programs, provide:
