A brief description of the practice:
In the past, community engagement has not been noted on student transcripts. There are, however, several faculty members who have expressed an interest in this occurring. Over the last year, tremendous work has been completed to identify service-learning courses on student transcripts by the Registrar’s Office. In addition, the Department of Religion has launched a certification program which does recognize community engagement on the student’s transcript. The Women and Gender Studies Program has extended to offer a major in addition to its minor for the undergraduate degree, and is working with the Institute for Public Engagement to incorporate community engagement components in its curriculum. The School of Law is also considering a similar process of recognition on transcripts. It is hoped that this will continue and lead to a university wide policy for noting community engagement on transcripts.
