1st campaign
NexTrex Recycling Program
A brief description of the campaign:
The Office of Wesleyan Engaged began a soft plastic recycling program in March of 2021. Prior to this, there were no options to recycle soft plastic on campus, so it was discarded. Bins with clear educational signs were set up around campus and the weekly emails to students and staff from Wesleyan Engaged included clear information and an infographic about what could be recycled in the bins (overwrap, plastic bags, etc.). The program was publicized in staff meetings as well to spread the word to all departments on campus. The student club Marlins Go Green also helped spread the information to students.
A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
Students and employees were encouraged to recycle any soft plastics, including packaging from overwrap and shipping. The mailroom and cafeteria particpated, as they generated a significant amount of soft plastic waste. Since the programs inception, over 700 lbs of soft plastic have been collected for recycling.
