During new student orientation, first-year students are able to choose between various exploration sessions. A few of these sessions are geared toward sustainability efforts. Out of the 357 undergraduate students this year who enrolled in VWU, 291, or 81.5%, of those were offered the opportunity to participate in orientation activities and programming that prominently included sustainability. During new student orientation, first-year students are able to choose between various exploration sessions. A few of these sessions are geared toward sustainability efforts.
Additionally during the orientation for the new students in the Batten Honors College, students participated in a tree planting service learning project with local non-profit the Elizabeth River Project, and learned about the importance of remediating this urban watershed. The Batten Honors College students comprise about 11% of all incoming first year students.
