The above figure was determined by comparing degree programs to course requirements and their relationship with sustainability as outlined in AC-1. Virginia Tech programs utilize both sustainability courses and learning outcomes to ensure that students leaving these majors are improving their knowledge and awareness to environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable practices as they enter the workforce. Programs that require sustainability courses or have specific learning outcomes are categorized in one of two ways: the program requires and utilizes sustainability courses with their own program prefix (Agricultural & Applied Economics is AAEC, denoted as yellow), or the program requires and utilizes sustainability courses with another program's prefix (Environmental Engineering, ENE, uses CEE courses. Denoted as grey). See "Departments" tab of attached spreadsheet.

Some degree programs that require an understanding of the concept of sustainability include: Crop & Environmental Science, Science and Technology in Society, Fish and Wildlife Conservation, and Forest Resource and Environmental Conservation. The numbers reported for this credit were determined by completing a comprehensive assessment of courses and departments that offer sustainability courses. The number of graduates covered by sustainability learning outcomes was calculated from the number of graduates in each program that requires a sustainability focused course either inside or outside of their own degree-granting department.
