A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
The Virginia Tech Alternative Transportation Department conducts the University’s biennial Commuter Survey. The purpose of this survey is to afford Transportation Services a more thorough understanding of how people commute to, from, and around the Blacksburg campus. The most recent survey was conducted in 2018 and involved a self-selected sample. Ultimately, 1,452 survey responses were collected, accounting for 3.4 percent of Blacksburg campus affiliates (students, faculty and staff).
