The Virginia Tech Climate Action Commitment (Presidential Policy Memorandum 262 Revision 1, dated May 9, 2013) point #6a states “Virginia Tech will improve the sustainability of its built environment by achieving LEED Silver certification or better for all eligible and applicable new buildings and major renovations.”

The Virginia Tech LEED Program for new construction and major renovation is robust. The university has a total of 14 LEED Certified Buildings (6 Gold, 6 Silver, 2 Certified). Four buildings were LEED Certified more than 5 years ago and represent a total of 141,240 GSF. Ten buildings reported above have a total of 1,031,832 GSF.

In addition, three buildings are LEED Registered, completed, and awaiting Certification, having a total 201,548 GSF.

Also, four buildings are LEED Registered, under construction, having a total of 129,634 GSF.

Furthermore, two buildings are LEED Registered, are in the design phase, having a total of 74,123 GSF.

Finally, four building are pending LEED Registration and have a total in excess of 200,000 GSF.
