A brief description of how green cleaning is incorporated into cleaning contracts:

Virginia Tech has adopted a green cleaning program for all campus buildings. Associate Director of Housekeeping, Greg Canaday, has identified a list of 21 green cleaning practices for the housekeeping staff and has developed associated training modules for 17 of these items. In the attached PDF, we have provided a representative sample, the green cleaning hallways module.

Of the institution's uncertified building space, what percentage of floor area is maintained in accordance with an energy management or benchmarking program? (0-100):
100

A brief description of the energy management or benchmarking program:

We completed the energy benchmarking of old buildings on VT main campus. Benchmarking analysis includes collecting information on old energy sources used in builds, which includes electric energy, steam, and potable water. Building energy consumption is updated on a monthly basis and annual performance indicators are developed at the end of each fiscal year. Total energy intensity per square foot of building space is used as the main criteria to compare and benchmark energy performance of campus buildings.

Of the institution's uncertified building space, what percentage of floor area is maintained in accordance with a water management or benchmarking program? (0-100):
100

A brief description of the water management or benchmarking program:

Virginia Tech collects water consumption statistics for all main campus buildings in Blacksburg, VA. Information is collected on a quarterly basis and annual water use intensities are estimated at the end of each fiscal year. Water intensity in gallons per square foot is used as a benchmarking criteria. Buildings with the highest water and energy intensities are the primary candidates for water efficiency improvement projects and upgrades.
