A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory (including the types of faculty and staff included as researchers):
The “STARS Report FY15 -17” document was created from a comprehensive list of all grant funded research efforts. This information provides the department affiliations of faculty engaged in sustainability research. These data were sourced from Virginia Tech’s Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) data sets for all departments including administrative, academic, research institutes and centers, extension and outreach offices, and various other university research organizations. The responsible person for each research venture is listed as well. In many cases, faculty and staff are involved with multiple research projects, and therefor will be listed a number of times to represent that. The titles and sum totals of each project are confidential, and thus are not provided in the document.
