Total percentage of the institution’s employees that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary method of transportation:
20.70

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:

The Parking and Transportation survey was conducted during the spring semester of 2017 over roughly a two week period, April 18 to May 3rd. The initial invitation was sent out on April 18th, followed by two reminder emails (April 25th and May 1st). Lists obtained from the Office of Records and Registration (Students) and Human Resources Division (Staff/Faculty) were used to pull a random sample (lists included all employees that worked on either the MCV or MPC campuses). The lists were divided into four groups (i.e., MCV Staff/Faculty, MPC Staff/Faculty, MCV Students, MPC Students) from which participants were randomly selected. The sampling was done in this manner to ensure each group of individuals would be represented in the final data set.
A total of 1,380 participants (22% of sample) completed the VCU Parking and Transportation Survey. Approximately 40% of participants indicated that they were primarily on the Monroe Park Campus, while 42% reported being primarily on the MCV campus (18% did not report). In looking at participant status, 46% reported being students and 54% reported being either Staff or Faculty.
