A brief description of the campus climate assessment(s) :

The Campus Climate Survey included three open-ended questions. A subcommittee of the Equity and Diversity Committee hired a qualitative research consultant who assisted with analysis of responses to these questions, resulting in this report.

Has the institution assessed student diversity and educational equity?:

VCU regularly assesses student outcomes in a variety of manners and through different lenses to make substantive improvements to retention and graduation, evidenced through our marked improvements in those areas over the years.

Time to degree, credit hour enrollment, and progression through the major are examined. Programs are analyzed, course impeders brought to the attention of chairs, D/F/W rates above the median, and depressed retention rates are addressed. It has been through the examination of choice student group behavior that VCU has been able to continuously elevate student success. In fact, last year the African American and white graduation rates were equal and it is projected that the AY 2014-15 six year graduation rate will increase approximately three points and that African American graduation rates will exceed those of whites by two points.

As a federal contractor, the University prepares an affirmative action plan annually which includes qualitative data analyses related to workforce composition/diversity and equity within employment practices.
