The VCU Division for Inclusive Excellence is responsible for institutional initiatives that create and nurture a dynamic and inclusive learning environment where individuals of differing perspectives, life experiences and cultural backgrounds are welcomed, valued and supported.
The Inclusive Learning Council (ILC) serves as a resource to academic units and their diversity leaders on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and offers support and advice for programming and systematic monitoring of progress in the academic units’ efforts to implement their diversity plans and inclusive excellence initiatives. The ILC advises the Provost, Vice President for Health Science, Deans and Vice Provosts; works with the Vice President for Inclusive Excellence and, engages in educational, informational, and progress updating opportunities.
The Inclusive Learning Council consists of membership from each of the college, schools, and academic units at VCU, and includes individuals who serve as diversity director, diversity coordinator, or chair of the diversity committee. Equity and Access Services leads, coordinates, and supports civil rights compliance, including Title IX, for the university community.

A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:
The Division for Inclusive Excellence’s diversity education program offers professional development opportunities for VCU community members to aid in operationalizing the principle of inclusive excellence in support of the VCU Quest for Distinction. VCU community members may take advantage of various educational opportunities to enhance their skill in creating a welcoming and respectful community of students, faculty and staff. Consultation is provided to assess the educational needs of the unit. Appropriate educational opportunities are then customized to meet desired outcomes.
