A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Richmond is hosting the UCI Road World Championship Bike Races this Fall and VCU has created 31 courses to engage students in the races. VCU is offering one-credit special topic courses during the bike race geared specifically toward the UCI Worlds. Some of these courses are service-learning in nature while others are based on a project designed by faculty members. VCU will be closed and regular classes will not be held, therefore these one-credit special topic courses were created to engage students in the race being held in Richmond.
A brief description of any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation (if not reported above):
Measurable outcomes include the number of students enrolled in the classes, the number of community service hours logged by students during the race events, as well as the "Great Bike Book" which will be a published, curated collection of final projects produced by students during these classes.
