A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the national level:
The University President, Father Peter Donohue, publicly committed Villanova University as a supporter of a strong agreement for the COP21 conference in Paris (along with hundreds of other American schools). This commitment was meant to encourage the US President at the time, Barack Obama, to push for greater GHG reduction by our nation.
In addition, President Donohue publicly supported the countries participation in the Paris Climate agreement after the 2016 election, after the President of the United States pulled America out of the Paris Climate Agreement in spring on 2017, and again, after America formally withdrew from the Paris Agreement in 2020.
These actions show a continued and public support for America's participation in global carbon reduction efforts.
