A brief description of the farmers’ market:
The Arlington Farmers’ Market is run by the Arlington Business Improvement District on Vassar property. The market operates in the late summer and fall, providing a venue for two to three dozen vendors to sell produce, prepared foods, flowers and other local products. In 2010, the market’s success allowed for its expansion from one to two days a week.
While Vassar College does not itself run the Arlington Farmers’ Market, the institution contributes in significant ways to its successful realization. Apart from providing a convenient location and ensuring its proper upkeep, the college plays an important role in long-term planning and publicity for the market through its membership in the Arlington Business Improvement District as a local landowner. Vassar students and administrators were involved in the market’s inception twelve years ago and continue to work to ensure that the needs of students and community members are met.
During the winter months the college also hosts a scaled-down indoor Farmer's Market in the College Center on Tuesdays.
