In the Fall of 2008, the theme of the year was sustainability. The common reading for all first year students was Elizabeth Kolbert's "Field Notes from a Catastrophe." Ms. Kolbert met with students for an afternoon questions and answer session, then gave the William Starr Freshman Course Lecture open to the whole college community.
