Part 1. Shared governance bodies

Does the institution have formal participatory or shared governance bodies through which the following stakeholders can regularly participate in the governance of the institution?:
Yes or No
Students Yes
Academic staff Yes
Non-academic staff Yes

A brief description of the institution’s formal participatory or shared governance bodies:
Vanier College Student Association (VCSA): The VCSA is the student governing body at Vanier College. They are a fully accredited association that represents over 6500 students. Their council is composed of 11-13 members who are full-time Vanier students. Each executive has their specific mandate but everyone works together towards the same goal; representing the students. They support, protect and maintain students interests and well-being above everything else. Their council members make sure that students voices are herd by sitting on over 20 boards and committees. They host weekly meetings where they discuss all issues of material, cultural, educational, recreational, political and social nature that may affect the students of the Association.

Vanier College Teachers Association (VCTA): As a local union for teachers, their first concern must always be with protecting teachers’ rights as they are outlined in the Collective Agreement and improving the Collective Agreement in upcoming negotiations. The collective rights of teachers are their priority and they often defend these by ensuring that HR does follow the stipulations in the Collective Agreement in all scenarios, from hiring procedures, teacher autonomy, healthy work environment and also in disciplinary measures. Disagreements about interpretation of the Collective Agreement may arise, and this is when they take the matter to arbitration.
Beyond the Collective Agreement, however, they also aim to influence the Administration to act in the interest of teachers, for instance following procedures that respect teachers as professionals and make them feel respected, from providing good working conditions, an inspiring work environment and promoting collegiality with faculty, support and professional staff.
