The university aggressively promotes waste minimization through inventory control that minimizes the over purchasing or redundant purchasing of chemicals.

The Environmental Health and Safety Office at Utah State University generates, stores, transports and disposes of all regulated waste in strict accordance with chapter 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

The university takes used computers from departments on campus. Surplus sells electronics with reuse value, and other electronics collected for recycling. The university's e-waste recycler, Metech, is E-Stewards certified, which requires recyclers to adhere to the highest standard of environmental responsibility and worker protection.
