A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty:

UW-Stout offers the McNair Scholars Program, a federal Department of Education TRIO grant with the purpose of addressing under-represented students in graduate education. Specifically, we take 28 undergraduate students and prepare them for graduate school with a focus on Ph.D/teaching degrees. We offer mentoring, financial literacy information, assistance in applying to graduate school and graduate school funding, research opportunities, presentation and networking opportunities, cultural/leadership events, and other activities designed to increase the likelihood of students who will attend and complete graduate education. We’ve had great success in helping our under-represented students go onto graduate school.

We also offer grants/financial resources for students of color to pursue graduate studies at UW-Stout through the Advanced Opportunity Program.

Previous Value: Inclusive Excellence is a UW System planning process. UW-Stout is committed to this process to cultivate an environment that fosters and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and accountability at every level of university life. UW-Stout values the presence and participation of diverse individuals and groups. The Inclusive Excellence process is engaged in creating learning environments in which students, faculty, and staff of all backgrounds can thrive and fulfill their academic, personal, and professional potential in a diverse nation and world. *The Diversity Leadership Team is a committee responsible for developing the Inclusive Excellence action plan using a participatory process, keeping it current, and ensuring completion of all tasks on the plan Campus Climate Survey The Campus Climate Survey is a way to measure the climate of diversity and inclusiveness on the UW-Stout campus with regard to race, ethnicity, gender identity and sexual orientation, religious affiliation, veteran status, etc. Nakatani Teaching & Learning Center During 2012-13, the Center offered the First Year Faculty Pilot Program, Infusing Diversity across the Curriculum project, and the Universal Design project. Numerous faculty were involved in each of these programs/projects and it is their completion of these yearlong activities, individual and group project outcomes, and their positive professional growth. Minority Faculty Staff Network The MSF was created to foster growth and opportunities for minority faculty and staff, to create an awareness of people from diverse backgrounds, and to enhance relationships to benefit the campus and community at-large. The Pride Alliance The UW System Inclusivity Initiative for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning People is to promote the success of all UWS students, staff, and faculty and support the development and dissemination of new knowledge concerning LGBTQ people and issues.
