A brief description of the institution’s participation in federal TRIO programs:

UW-Stout participates in McNair and ASPIRE-Student Support Services, which are for students that are currently attending Stout. UW-Stout also has the ETS program for supporting middle and high school students.


A brief description of the institution’s policies and programs to minimize the cost of attendance for low-income students?:

Tuition remission is offered to needy and worthy students. There is also a housing deferral program to defer the housing cost and an application fee waiver policy.

The ASPIRE program offers training in this area.


A brief description of the institution’s programs to prepare students from low-income backgrounds for higher education:

UW-Stout works with a number of TRIO and Gear Up programs to support low income students for group visits. In addition a grant is being written to support children that are aging out of Foster care. During the group visits there is a focus on college admission and Enrollment Services has also gone into several high schools to work with students that are low-income and students of color to assist them.

There are a few foundation scholarships that are need based scholarships.

Enrollment Services works with Hmong and Latino parents in providing workshops on higher education.

Enrollment Services works with students of color as a targeted outreach and some of them are also low-income.

The tuition remission policy from the UW-System is set up to provide funding for low-income individuals. There is a worthy clause as well, so the students must also be solid academically to qualify for the funding.
