A brief description of the institution’s professional development opportunities on sustainability in the curriculum:
The staff of the Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education offers professional development workshops for formal and non-formal educators to enhance the integration of environmental education into existing curricula. Venues include: conferences, school inservices, non-formal education settings (nature centers, etc.) and at special events. Workshop length and focus vary and can be tailored to meet specific needs. Focus areas include: Energy education, (energy efficiency/conservation, renewable, school buildings, place-based education), Forestry education, (site-specific, school forest, school grounds), and Outdoor education. All workshop participants receive ready-to-use hands-on lessons and other supporting resources. They also receive a Certificate of Completion from the WCEE upon successful completion of each workshop. All workshops support schools in their Green & Healthy Schools Wisconsin initiatives. Substitute reimbursements of up to $150 may be available.
A large part of WCEE is focused on K-12 education however there are many professional development opportunities for higher educational professional. Many of our hands on workshops have been attended by UW system instructors and professors. Online webinars have been attended by Upper Midwest Association for Campus Sustainability (UMACS) professionals as well. These offerings have grown in popularity as infusing sustainability into university curriculum has gained momentum.
Have academic staff from other institutions participated in the professional development opportunities on sustainability with the previous three years?:
