Does the institution have an ongoing program that offers incentives for academic staff in multiple disciplines or departments to develop new sustainability courses and/or incorporate sustainability into existing courses? :
Yes

A brief description of the incentive program(s):
WIST Scholar Program
The WIST Scholar program taps the energy and creativity of UWSP faculty and staff across campus to advance research, education and other ideas that further the WIST mission and vision. The program is open to faculty and staff at all UWSP. WIST solicits proposals for sustainability projects in research, education, curriculum, or laboratory services.

University Personnel Development Committee Course Innovation (CI) Grant offers grants for development of new and/or innovative classes, teaching strategies, methods of classroom presentation, and the development and implementation of innovative assessment strategies for course curriculum improvement.

A brief description of the incentives that academic staff who participate in the program(s) receive:
WIST Scholar Program provides winning individuals/teams with financial, administrative, and/or other support.

The Course Innovation (CI) Grant provides a summer stipend of $1,000 per credit to eligible faculty or academic staff for the development of innovative pedagogy.

“Innovative pedagogy” may involve any of the following:
-Novel or creative course objectives or outcomes
-Novel or creative instruction that targets emerging demographics or better supports diverse student populations
-Novel or creative classroom teaching and learning processes
-Novel or creative assessment methods

As a result of these incentives a new sustainability focused program was developed, Community Sustainability, in 2022.

The Community Sustainability degree at UW-Stevens Point is a new bachelor’s degree program, newly launched in Fall 2022. The major caters to science-focused students who want to put their knowledge to work in building and developing sustainable organizations or communities. The program complements existing sustainability degrees that center on resource management, food systems and education.
