Human Dimensions of Natural Resource Management

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program:

Majoring in Human Dimensions of Natural Resource Management will prepare students for the professions that bring people and the environment together. Students and faculty in this discipline focus their studies on the interactions of humans with their environment and the ways that citizens can best be educated to make decisions about those interactions. This major provides a solid basis for graduate level education in law or natural resource management and policy.
There are courses in resource and ecological economics, physical environment (fisheries, foresty, wildlife), social sciences such as philosophy, political science, and sustainability science.

Sustainable Food and Nutrition

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (2nd program):

Share your passion for food from farm-to-fork (food production through consumption) and working on food-related issues at a community, national or international level in the sustainable food and nutrition program at UW-Stevens Point. If you are interested in addressing the food and nutrition needs of a community by building the pathways that make it easier for everyone to buy and eat healthier foods now and in the future, this is the program for you. At the same time, you create connections that support local farmers, reduce resource use, consider social and cultural integrity, and provide for more robust local economic growth.

The Sustainable Energy Minor is a 21 credit minor which combines a foundational knowledge of economics, social sciences, and environmental sciences with more specific topics about sustainable energy and climate change.

Philosophy Major-Environmental Ethics Concentration

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration (2nd program):

Environmental ethics explores questions concerning the values, beliefs and attitudes that influence how people relate to the environment, and trains students to navigate diverse perspectives skillfully, to reflect on the ethics of these perspectives, and to communicate clearly and persuasively about environmental issues. Graduates in philosophy with an emphasis in environmental ethics find employment in the nonprofit sector working for environmental advocacy, conservation, sustainable food systems, alternative energy, and environmental education

Environmental Studies Minor

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration (3rd program):

Environmental Studies is a multi-disciplinary approach to studying the relationships between people and their environments. Students begin the minor with HIST 280 - American Environmental History, an examination of major environmental and social changes. Core courses, chosen to represent the many facets of sustainability, connect ecology, economy, and social justice. Students then choose electives with environmental dimensions from across the humanities and social sciences to explore specific topics in greater depth. A capstone, ENGL 392 - Literature and Ecology pulls together the learning experience.
