A brief description of energy use standards and controls employed by the institution:
Winter occupied temperatures are controlled between 68 and 70 degrees, unoccupied temperatures are set at 65 degrees. Summer occupied temperatures are controlled between 76 and 78 degrees. Building HVAC systems are controlled on/off based on occupancy schedule for all campus buildings through the campus Energy Management Systems (EMS).

A brief description of Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting and other energy-efficient lighting strategies employed by the institution:
90% of the campus site lighting was changed to LED, including South Fork Suites, Prucha Hall, and Stratton Hall hallway lights, Parker and Grimm basement lights, MVF Barns lights, facility warehouse lights, and the University Center common area lighting. Also, all remodel projects now include LED lights.

The Research Development Institute building and Ames Residential Suites' domestic water heating employs passive solar heating.
