A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:
During new student orientation, all new students and their families are provided with a Handbook that highlights campus resources, important dates, policy information, and student success tips. Additionally, the Handbook has an entire section devoted to Sustainability that provides information on more than a dozen programs and opportunities for students to engage in more sustainable behaviors.
All new students to the university are required to participate in New Student Orientation activities. In 20145, there were more than 1000 first-year and 400 transfer students that participated in orientation programs prior to their enrollment at the University.
A one page document was also provided to the New Student Orientation staff that described campus activities and involvement opportunities related to sustainability. These students leaders were encouraged to share the information and promote sustainability with new members of the campus community.
